FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The Leadership of Michigan Open Carry, Inc. is pleased by the decision of the Court of Appeal regarding Capital Area District Library v. Michigan Open Carry, Inc. We recognize some of the judges ruling in this matter may have had personal feelings that differed from their legal opinion. We thank them for setting aside their personal feeling and ruling on the applicable laws rather than being guided by emotions.
The Court's opinion is not just a victory for Michigan Open Carry, Inc. and those who openly carry a handgun; rather this decision is a victory for all gun owners and gun carriers (concealed or open) throughout Michigan. With this decision, law abiding persons who carry a firearm for self-defense will not have to concern themselves about regulations by local municipal authorities or other units of local government when going about their daily lives. These regulations would otherwise have created a "patch work" of laws, rules, and regulations that the State Legislature explicitly sought to avoid.
The leadership of Michigan Open Carry, Inc. calls upon all guns owners to take heart in this decision, but to do so in a professional and mature manner. We ask people to go about their daily lives and not do anything that would reflect poorly on all gun owners.
MOC is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to advocate for the lawful open carry of a holstered handgun. We seek to educate the public about their right to keep and bear arms in regards to the open carry of a handgun.
